Running Icarus on your own computer is free. If you want jobs to run on the shared network instead, that is what tokens and plans are for.

What that means

• Your files never leave

  Folders you choose are encrypted on disk and stay that way. Other programs get access only when you say so, one at a time.

• Its own network

  Your machines reach each other directly where they can, and route around the internet where they can't.

• Your phone is part of it

  Pair it once by scanning a code. From then on it talks to your own computer, encrypted end to end.

• Almost nothing to sign into

  Your work never goes to a server, so there is no account holding it. The one exception is buying tokens, which needs somewhere to put them — and you only need that if you want to use the shared network.

Questions people ask

• Is there a version I can just use in a browser?

  Not yet. Running it on our machine means your work would live there too, and that isn't ready to be safe for strangers sharing one box. It's being built properly rather than quickly.

• What is the certificate thing?

  Your computer issues its own, so your phone can trust it directly without anyone in the middle. You can download it and install it by hand.

• Does it need the internet?

  To download and to find your other machines the first time. After that, two machines on the same network talk to each other.
